This Privacy Policy explains what information WhichSpot ("WhichSpot", "we", "us") collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. WhichSpot is a live discovery map that helps you find places and, when you choose to, document an incident. By using WhichSpot you agree to this policy.
Information we collect
- Account information. When you sign in, we store your email address and the authentication records needed to keep your account secure.
- Location. When you ask the app to find places near you or to tag an incident, your device shares its location with us for that request. We do not track your location in the background.
- Content you create. Incident records, including the category, your written description, the time, the location you attach, and any photos or video you add. This content is private to your account by default.
- Usage and device data. Basic, non-identifying information such as pages visited and request timing, used to keep the service fast and reliable.
How we use your information
- To show you live, relevant places near the location you choose.
- To save and display the incident records you create, so you can use them later for a claim, a police report, or your own records.
- To operate, secure, debug, and improve the service.
- To respond to you when you contact us.
How your information is stored
Your data is stored with our infrastructure providers, including Supabase (database, authentication, and file storage) and Vercel (application hosting). Incident photos and video are kept in a private storage bucket and are served only through short-lived signed links to you. We use row-level security so that, by default, only you and authorized WhichSpot staff can access your private records.
How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the service providers that run WhichSpot on our behalf, when you direct us to share it, or when we are legally required to do so (for example, a valid legal request). Aggregated, de-identified information that cannot reasonably be used to identify you may be used to understand and improve the service.
Your choices and rights
- You can turn off location sharing in your device or browser settings.
- You can delete an incident record you created at any time.
- You can request a copy of your data or ask us to delete your account by emailing us at the address below.
Data retention
We keep your account and the records you create until you delete them or ask us to close your account. We may keep limited information where we are required to for legal, security, or fraud-prevention reasons.
Security
We use industry-standard measures, including encryption in transit, access controls, and row-level security, to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to protect your data and to address issues promptly.
Children
WhichSpot is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will remove it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be communicated through the app where appropriate.
